Mortal Shell II is a sequel to Mortal Shell, which had strong positive reviews, but the new upcoming game is also expected to review well, and its trailer has been received extremely well.
Mortal Shell II returns with a darker world, faster combat, and even greater challenges, but the main thing is that this game, or this series, has its unique Shell mechanic. Personally, I think this game is a remake of the first game but with advanced animations, more appealing visuals, and a system that players like.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Developer | Cold Symmetry |
| Publisher | Playstack |
| Genre | Action RPG / Soulslike |
| Engine | Unreal Engine 5 |

The story is set in a decaying kingdom with ancient ruins, many twisted creatures, and is centered around an entity named Harbinger, who is on a mission to recover the stolen Ova. You adventure across forests, dark dungeons, and temples. Harbinger has the ability to take control of fallen warriors called Shells. Each of those warriors has a different fighting style. The more you progress throughout the game, the more you will uncover the lost memories of the previous world, and it will also help you find your own purpose.
So the game is an action role-playing game that has forgotten mysteries, hidden lore, mysterious NPCs, and an encrypted world, all of that in a dark fantasy atmosphere.

Like I said before, you play as Harbinger, who is trying to recover the stolen Ova from the enemies. While doing that, you have to explore creepy temples, dark forests, icy areas, and even castles made out of bones.
In the game, you’re going to be able to find more than 60 mini-dungeons. By going through them, you’re going to find really good loot. While doing that, you’re going to be exposed to a fast Soulslike combat system featuring fluid melee combat, fast-paced dodging and parrying mechanics, heavy and light attacks, and a variety of weapons. It is said that the map is going to be way larger than the previous game, and on top of that, the shotgun feels really satisfying. It also has a stunning movement system.
The game is not only about the combat system. It has a unique Shell system. In the game, Harbinger is going to be able to use a total of nine Shells in Mortal Shell II. Some of those Shells come from the previous game, but for now, we have four confirmed Shells:
On top of that, these Shells can be upgraded by Zhirelle, the Shellkeeper. Not only can you upgrade them, but you can also experience the life of each Shell through their memories.

So the first change that we’re going to see is that there is no stamina bar, which means you can attack as long as you want. There’s no need to stop in the middle of combat to recover before attacking again.
Also, the upgrade system is a bit different because you can only put points into the level of the Shell. Other things, like attack or defense, are upgraded automatically. You don’t have many choices there, but you do have other choices, like your Shell, weapon, and equipment.
After watching the trailer, the one thing that stood out was the fast travel system. The animation for fast travel is phenomenal. The world design is deep and comes with a map, but there are still some locations that you need to explore before they appear on it.

There are going to be multiple different bosses with unique attack patterns. You have to learn their moves, master the timing, and adapt to the Shell that you like or that suits your gameplay.
Mortal Shell II is built on Unreal Engine 5. It has a lot of improvements in graphics and the overall cinematic look of the game.
| Feature | Mortal Shell II | Mortal Shell |
|---|---|---|
| Combat | Faster & Smoother | Methodical |
| World | Larger & More Open | Compact |
| Shells | More Variety | Limited Roster |
| Graphics | Unreal Engine 5 | Unreal Engine 4 |
| Exploration | Expanded | Focused |
The previous of Mortal Shell II did well enough for the developers to make another one, but now it is even better and way more enjoyable than before. Personally, the previous game is nothing compared to this game. And when you look at the demo, it was one of the best demos I’ve ever seen.

The game is said to be released on August 20, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
We expect that this game is going to be much better than the last game, which was also pretty good.
What are Shells in Mortal Shell II?
Shells are fallen warriors that the main character uses to become that warrior. By becoming that warrior, he gains that fallen warrior’s abilities and different combat style.
Is Mortal Shell II an open-world game?
From what I have seen in the trailer, the game is going to be more open, but there are still going to be hidden places that you have to discover to unlock.

Even after doing okay with the first game, they came back with this Mortal Shell II to reclame the succes that game deserve.
