Story & Setting
According to DC Comics Vice President Jim, he described this game as a love letter to the world of Batman. At first, this statement doesn’t hide anything. Things are clear because how well things are going to be designed shows how much they love Batman.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is going to retell the story of Bruce Wayne from his origin. This game is going to inspire the story from the movies, the 1966 TV shows, and the old comic books that were first made. It is going to be an original story.
Gameplay & Features
Of course, the player is going to explore the open world of Gotham City where he’s going to engage in combat, puzzle solving, and cop gameplay. According to the media, the map of Gotham City is going to be a big map that can be traveled by grappling hooks, gliding, and vehicles such as the Batmobile. The Batcave is going to have customizable cars, trophies, and collected items.
There is a chance these games could be played solo and multiplayer as well.

Characters
There are only 7 playable characters: Batman, Jim Gordon, Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul, unlike previous Lego games that had hundreds of different characters. The reason behind that is that these 7 characters have their own unique skills and gadgets. For example, Catwoman has a whip as a weapon compared to Gordon, who carries a gun that sprays foam. And we are going to see a lot of supervillains: Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, and tons more.
Development
According to developers, they’re going to be using Unreal Engine 5 in the game, and on top of that, this is going to be the biggest map they ever created or used in their previous games. They’re also going to be increasing visual fidelity.

Inspiration
The combat system of this new game is heavily inspired by Batman: Arkham. It is not a copy of Batman: Arkham.
Tone & Style
If we talk about the style and tone of this game, it is going to be a bit fun plus dark because it’s Batman. Mainly because it’s a Lego game, it’s not going to be that dark.
Possible Platforms & Release
Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was first announced at Gamescom on August 19, 2025. Then it was finished on April 30, 2026, and scheduled to be launched on May 22. It’s not totally confirmed, but it is genuinely possible. We’re going to be able to see this game on PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and even later on Nintendo Switch 2.
