Crimson Desert 2026 Review: Everything You Need to Know Before Buying

Introduction

Recently, a game was released with a massive open world and a deep story experience. After years of development, Pearl Abyss published Crimson Desert. This action-adventure game has received generally positive reviews. The game has impressed players with the number of things to explore. It was released on March 19, and within the first week, the game sold three million copies.

Crimson Desert

Back history

At first, Crimson Desert was planned to be a prequel to Black Desert Online, but Pearl Abyss remade it into a completely different single-player experience.

Story & Setting

The story is about a character named Kliff, who is a member of the Greymanes. The clan faced a devastating attack from their enemies, the Black Bears. During that time, many members of the clan were lost, and Kliff was also killed. He was later revived by supernatural beings. He then begins to reunite with the remaining clan members to rebuild the fallen Greymanes and face the Black Bears once again. Many scenarios feel satisfying and meaningful.

Crimson Desert

Open World & Exploration

The player is able to explore a grand fantasy world called Pywel. The game is filled with fascinating sights and cultures. Even the cities are unique, from clockwork-style cities to labyrinths of esoteric locations that contain their own properties. Viewing the world from high points is amazing. Aside from exploration, there are multiple conflicts and activities to experience.

Gameplay & Combat

The combat uses fast, fluid, and realistic combos along with magic. There is also horseback combat and large dragons to defeat. It’s not just about fighting—there is fishing, cooking, crafting, and hunting. If you want to upgrade your gear, you need to grind materials.

Talking about realism, there are puzzles and side quests. Bosses have long-reaching attacks with very short openings. That’s only the tip of the iceberg—there is much more as you progress. You will find more things to explore. The realistic physics and interactions between animals and NPCs add depth. There are many things in this game that cannot be easily described.

Controversies

There were reports from gamers and media outlets that the game does not support Intel GPUs. After this issue became public, Intel contacted the developers to help fix it. According to the FAQ page, they are working on resolving the issue so the game can run on Intel GPU systems. Further updates are expected from Pearl Abyss.

Additionally, some paintings and signs in the game were AI-generated, but this was not initially disclosed. The company later issued an apology.
