Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
We’re going to see Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses everywhere in the future. First, Ray-Ban released Gen 1, then Gen 2, and previously the Meta Ray-Ban Display. All of them are loaded with features that feel like we have technology from the future.

Introduction
For all these years, we have only had stylish glasses with no major changes for a long time. Each year, it felt as if glasses were being left behind, but Ray-Ban found a way to keep them alive.
What Are Ray-Ban Meta Glasses?
The partnership between EssilorLuxottica (the parent company of Ray-Ban) and Facebook was announced on September 20, 2020, with the upcoming launch of Ray-Ban Meta Glasses.
Later, their first generation of Ray-Ban Meta Glasses was launched. The glasses were equipped with style and technology that had never been seen in glasses before. The glasses are built with cameras, speakers, microphones, and hands-free controls that allow users to take photos, record videos, listen to music, and answer calls directly from the glasses.
Main Features
They were first launched on October 17, 2023.
These Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are equipped with dual 5MP cameras. More specifically, the photo resolution is 2592 by 1944, and the video resolution is 1184 by 1184 at 30 fps.
There are limits to how large a video can be captured. When they were launched, they were capable of recording 30-second-long videos, but after some updates, that number changed, and even recording videos in slow motion was added in the newer app version.
Audio & Voice
The Gen 1 also has 2 micro speakers and 5 microphone arrays, which can be used for calls, playing music, or using Facebook assistants.
Controls & Chip
The smart glasses can be controlled with a touchpad. All of those features are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor chip. The media and other features are managed through the Facebook View app, where you’re required to have a Facebook account.
The smart glasses come with a charging case and USB-C charging. If we talk about the battery life of the first Gen, it is really disappointing. It only lasts 3 hours of usage and can be charged in around 1 hour. If you fully depend on it, you need to recharge it a minimum of 3 times a day.
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2)
The Gen 2 smart glasses were released on August 26, 2025, in partnership with Oakley, Inc. These were somewhat the same, but with major upgrades.
Cameras / Video
A 12MP ultra-wide camera was installed in the Gen 2, capable of taking photos at 3024 × 4032 pixels and recording 3K Ultra HD video, even supporting 60 frames per second. That’s not all — they were also equipped with better image processing, better stabilization, and the capability of live streaming to Facebook and Instagram.
Audio & Microphones
They come with a custom 5 microphone array. They improved the open-ear speakers and added richer bass and louder sound. They fully support call music, voice commands, noise reduction, and AI interaction.
Meta AI Features
They also added more features, including Meta AI support. Other features include real-time translation. The glasses are also capable of identifying objects, providing real-time information, and using hands-free voice commands.
Connectivity & Hardware
The second generation of Meta glasses uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor equipped with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and 32GB of storage. This is a major upgrade compared with the previous one.
Battery & Charging
This is where I see a big improvement. The glasses come with 8 hours of battery life, and the case provides 48 hours of extra charge. These glasses can also go from 0 to 50% in 20 minutes.
Meta Ray-Ban Display
On September 18, 2025, Meta announced the new Meta Ray-Ban Display, which includes a display inside the glasses.
Built-In Display
The display does not cover the whole lens, only a part of it. The cool thing about it is that it is only visible to the person wearing the glasses. You can see notifications, maps, translations, and more directly on the lens.
The display is 600 by 600 resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate and brightness up to 5000 nits. The big question is how we control it. The glasses come with a Meta Neural Band. By swiping, pinching, or making other kinds of gestures, the wristband detects them and allows the user to control the glasses.
This new feature allows you to access more functions, like directions, viewing maps, and using live captions, which were not seen in the previous generation.
If we speak about the camera, audio, battery, and hardware, it contains many of the same things but with more upgrades. The new glasses can be used all day without interruption, and they also have 2GB LPDDR4X RAM.
It weighs 70g and costs around $799 USD.

Pricing
Let’s talk about pricing. I have gone through these glasses, and the pricing is irregular. Generation 1 can go up to $300, Generation 2 can go up to $500, and the new display generation can go up to $1000.
Privacy and Ethical Concerns
There are a lot of privacy concerns over these glasses, mainly because they can record at any time without the person’s consent. The biggest problem is that there is a light when you’re recording, and that light is the only indication that a person is recording.
However, there are kits and modifications that allow the glasses not to show the light, and ultimately, nobody knows they are being recorded. On top of that, many people are concerned about conversations being listened to or what they are saying being stored as data. These are major concerns surrounding these glasses.
Why These Glasses Are So Popular
These are not the typical regular glasses you see everywhere; this is something new. Most of the time, it is because they are useful for content creators. It’s not like you’re holding a camera and recording so everyone knows. This is fashion mixed with technology.
