Control Resonant Looks Incredible – Story, Combat & New Details (2026)

Control Resonant Could Be Remedy's Biggest Game Yet

Remedy Entertainment is quite happy with the success of Control and Alan Wake 2, but now they’re turning their attention toward a paranormal universe with Control Resonant.

Introduction

Many players are looking forward to this game, maybe because it’s a sequel to Control. But the story is going to get weird. You’re going to be seeing a new character, a new map to explore, and an action RPG-type game. This game holds the title of being the biggest development yet for the studio.

Story & Setting

After the original events that were introduced in the first game, seven years later the Hiss escaped. The city slowly became unrecognizable, with citizens who are influenced and transformed into unrecognizable creatures. The Federal Bureau of Control has to recover this city before the danger can grow any further. Players are going to step into the shoes of Dylan Faden, who is released from captivity to combat the threat.

Who is Dylan?

Dylan Faden was a capable candidate to become the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, but his sister Jesse was chosen. In the first game, Jesse tried to free Dylan from the Hiss. There is still some corruption left in him. Dylan also possesses Hiss-related powers.

A City Transformed

The Hiss have changed the city according to their mysterious goals. They have even taken possession of the humans living there. Many dangerous supernatural creatures have appeared, and there are some parts of the location that exist outside normal space and time.

More Than Just the Hiss?

There is some speculation. According to the trailer, the Hiss might be working alongside another creature, being manipulated, or there may be another threat that surpasses the Hiss.

Gameplay & Combat

The gameplay is completely different from the first game. The first game was based on shooting, but Control Resonant is more focused on melee combat. It is confirmed that the game is going to be open-ended. Players are free to explore and complete quests and objectives. The maps are identified as zones. Players may also encounter hidden events and optional objectives. We’re going to be seeing a lot of telekinetic abilities, reality manipulation, and gravity-based movement.

Combat and Living Weapon

The main character possesses a weapon called Aberrant that has the ability to shapeshift. Because of this, the combat is mostly close-range and aggressive. The weapon is also designed to work alongside the character’s abilities.

Customizable Character

The main character can be customized to suit your fighting style. There are builds like Strength, Speed, Hiss Power, and Hybrid builds that balance all options. Choosing certain abilities and builds may allow access to options that are unavailable to other builds.

Development

The development budget of this game is estimated to be €15 million. If we’re talking about the engine, it is going to use the Northlight Engine, which was also used for Alan Wake 2.

A Potential New Villain

I already talked about this a bit. There might be a new villain, or the Hiss may be manipulated by someone else. It’s not confirmed; it’s just a theory. This theory is based on the new trailer, which suggests there might be something beyond the Hiss.

Why Fans Are So Hyped

This is a continuation of the story, so many fans of the previous game are surely going to support it. It’s going to be a stronger new game on the market. The game is going to have a unique map system. I think this game is going to be pretty successful because they are putting a lot of effort into making it. €50 million is not a small amount, so I would say they’re planning something big.
