Apple now has 2 MacBook Pro options: the MacBook Pro OLED and the MacBook Pro M6. Before, you only had the option between the Air and the Pro, but then Apple added Neo, and now Apple is adding a new MacBook Pro OLED to the MacBook Pro series. So now you have more options, but you’re also twice as confused about the MacBook Pro M6 and MacBook Pro PROLED XDR. Now the real question is whether you should prioritize processing power or display technology.
The new OLED MacBook has not been released yet, but we can still guide you, probably. I’m only going to tell you the ups and downs of both MacBooks.

| Feature | MacBook Pro M6 | MacBook Pro PROLED XDR |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Apple M6 | M5 Pro / M5 Max |
| Display technology | Mini-LED | Tandem OLED |
| Display name | Liquid Retina XDR | PROLED XDR |
| Display sizes | 14.2-inch | 14.2-inch / 16.3-inch |
| Touchscreen | No | Yes |
| Peak HDR brightness | 1,600 nits | 2,000 nits |
| Contrast ratio | 1,000,000:1 | 10,000,000:1 |
| Colour gamut | P3 | P3 + Adobe RGB |
| Refresh rate | ProMotion up to 120Hz | ProMotion 10–120Hz |
| Dynamic Island | No | Yes |

Right off the bat, the MacBook Pro PROLED has the new touchscreen. The new OLED display is more eye-catching. Apple claims that the new display “offers a visual experience unlike any other.” The new Tandem OLED is game-changing. I explained that in an article that is fully dedicated to the MacBook Pro PROLED. On top of that, it can produce deeper blacks, offers a higher advertised contrast ratio, and supports Adobe RGB in addition to P3.
They also added the Dynamic Island that we have seen on the iPhone for 4 years continuously. And I am really curious about how many Live Activities we are going to have. Currently, the iPhone 18 supports 3. Let’s see!
But when we look at the MacBook Pro M6, which has the same old Liquid Retina XDR, it is a bit disappointing, but it has M6 chips that might help us.
| Chip | CPU | GPU | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|---|
| M6 | 12-core | 12-core | General productivity, AI, and creative work |
| M5 Pro | Up to 18-core | Up to 20-core | Professional editing, development, and multitasking |
| M5 Max | Up to 18-core | Up to 40-core | Advanced 3D, AI, 8K video, and demanding workloads |

If we talk about ports, it is said that the M3 has Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, and a card slot, MagSafe charging, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and we are hoping that the MacBook Pro is going to be around that as well.
| Feature | MacBook Pro M6 | MacBook Pro OLED (PROLED XDR) |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price (CAD) | $2,799 | $3,999 |
| 14-inch model (CAD) | ~$1,999 | ~$2,899 |
| 16-inch model (CAD) | ~$2,999 | ~$3,399 |

Personally, whether you take the touchscreen or not, they can do everything with butter-smooth performance, but if you want to take the OLED with the touchscreen, it depends on your needs. Sometimes, if you’re doing that big project, having the OLED can be helpful.
Is the MacBook Pro M6 worth buying? Which MacBook Pro should I buy in 2026?
Personally, for the moment, I don’t think it’s worth buying. On top of that, there’s a university coming up. I’m waiting for Apple to release another MacBook Pro or something like that. If not, I still have my old MacBook. I would rather wait.
Is the MacBook Pro M6 going to get cancelled?
There is a possibility.

Before, when you wanted to buy a MacBook Pro, even the most expensive one, you only had one option. But now you have two options, so according to your work, you can decide which one to get. Now you have more varieties to choose from instead of just being forced to have the only one.
