6. GRAND THEFT AUTO 3- 14.5 Million Sales

The 2001 action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto III was created by DMA Design and released by Rockstar Games. After Grand Theft Auto 2, which was released in 1999, this is the third major installment in the Grand Theft Auto series and the fifth overall. The story, which takes place in the made-up city of Liberty City (which is loosely based on New York City), centers on Claude, the silent protagonist who, after being duped and left for dead by his girlfriend during a robbery, sets out on a revenge quest that draws him into a world of drugs, crime, gang warfare, and corruption. The game’s world can be explored on foot or by car, and it is played from a third-person viewpoint. Due to its open-world layout, players can explore Liberty City, which is divided into three primary sections. Edinburgh-based DMA Design and New York City-based Rockstar collaborated on the development. A significant portion of the development went toward making well-known components from the Grand Theft Auto series fully 3D for the first time. After the September 11 attacks, the game was postponed to give the creators time to modify any offensive gameplay and references. In October 2001 for the PlayStation 2, May 2002 for Windows, and November 2003 for the Xbox, Grand Theft Auto III was released.

5. RED DEAD REDEMPTION- 15 Million Sales

The 2010 action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption was created by Rockstar San Diego and released by Rockstar Games. It is the second game in the Red Dead series and the follow-up to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver. The events of Red Dead Redemption take place in 1911, as the American frontier is beginning to collapse. It centers on John Marston, a former bandit who vows to bring three members of his former gang to justice after the government holds his wife and children hostage in exchange for his services as a hired gun. The story looks at topics including the American Dream, atonement, masculinity, and the cycle of violence. The viewpoint used to play the game is third-person. Its dynamic open environment allows the user to explore freely, mostly on foot and by horseback. It is a fictitious representation of the Western United States and Northern Mexico. The “Dead Eye” gunslinger gameplay feature, which enables players to mark numerous shooting targets on foes in slow motion, is emphasized in gunfights. The game employs a morality system whereby the player’s choices impact their character’s reputation, honor, and other characters’ reactions to them. The original edition comes with an online multiplayer option that replicates the single-player environment and supports up to 16 players for competitive and cooperative gameplay. The game became one of the most expensive video games ever developed after more than five years of development. Rockstar upgraded its in-house gaming engine to make it more technologically capable. To create authenticity for the game, the development team undertook a great deal of study, which included field trips to Washington, D.C., and an analysis of classic Western films. To perform the bodily movements through motion capture, the crew brought in professional performers. Woody Jackson and Bill Elm wrote the original soundtrack for Red Dead Redemption. The creation of the game was criticized after it was claimed that unethical working techniques were used. Employees publicly complained about the studio’s working hours and management style. 1. 4. GRAND THEFT AUTO: VICE CITY- 17.5 Million Sales

The action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was created by Rockstar North and released by Rockstar Games in 2002. After Grand Theft Auto III in 2001, this is the fourth main game and sixth overall in the Grand Theft Auto series. The single-player narrative of Vice City, a fictitious city modeled after Miami and Miami Beach and set in 1986, chronicles mobster Tommy Vercetti’s ascent to prominence following his release from jail and involvement in an ambush cocaine trade. Tommy steadily expands his criminal empire by taking over other criminal organizations in the city while he searches for those who are accountable. The game’s world can be explored on foot or by car, and it is played from a third-person viewpoint. The two main islands that make up Vice City are freely traversed by the player thanks to the open world concept. The plot of the game is inspired by a number of real-life Miami events and characters, including biker gangs, Cubans, Haitians, the crack epidemic of the 1980s, Miami’s Mafioso drug lords, and the popularity of glam metal. The television shows and movies of the time, particularly Miami Vice and Scarface, had an impact on the game as well. Much of the development work constituted creating the game world to fit the inspiration and time period; the development team conducted extensive field research in Miami while creating the world. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released in October 2002 for the PlayStation 2, in May 2003 for Windows, and in November 2003 for the Xbox

3. GRAND THEFT AUTO SAN ANDREAS - 27.5 Million Sales

The action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was created by Rockstar North and released by Rockstar Games in 2004. After Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002, this game is the eighth in the Grand Theft Auto series. The game, which takes place in the made-up state of San Andreas, centers on Carl “CJ” Johnson, who discovers that his former street gang has lost a lot of ground when he returns home following the murder of his mother. He fights with strong criminals and dishonest officials, tries to reestablish the gang, and eventually discovers the truth about his mother’s murder throughout the game. The game’s world can be explored on foot or by car, and it is played from a third-person viewpoint. The three main metropolises of San Andreas—Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas—which are modeled after Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, respectively—are all freely explorable because of the game’s open world layout. The story is based on a number of actual Los Angeles events, such as the rivalry between the Bloods and Crips street gangs, the crack epidemic of the 1990s, the Los Angeles riots of 1992, and the Rampart scandal. October 2004 saw the release of the game for the PlayStation 2, and Windows and Xbox saw it released in 2005. A remastered version was released in 2021, after enhanced versions and mobile ports were produced in the 2010s.

2. RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2- 53 Million Sales

Rockstar Games is the developer and publisher of the 2018 action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption 2. The game serves as a precursor to Red Dead Redemption (2010) and is the third installment in the Red Dead series. The narrative centers on the adventures of Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and member of the Van der Linde gang, who must contend with the decline of the Wild West while battling the government, rival gangs, and other enemies. The story is set in a fictionalized version of the United States in 1899. The user can freely explore the dynamic open world of the game, which is displayed in both first- and third-person views. Shootouts, robberies, hunting, horseback riding, interacting with non-player characters, and upholding the character’s honor rating through moral decisions and deeds are some of the gameplay components. The way that law enforcement and bounty hunters react to crimes that the player commits is governed by a bounty system. Soon after Red Dead Redemption was released, the game’s development began and continued for more than eight years, culminating in one of the most expensive video games ever created. To speed up development, Rockstar combined all of its studios into one big team. Instead of drawing inspiration from movies or artwork, they used actual places to create a realistic portrayal of the era for the game’s characters and setting. After evaluating the technology of the eighth-generation consoles during the Grand Theft Auto V port, Rockstar created the game, which was their first designed exclusively for them.

1. GRAND THEFT AUTO V- 180 Million Sales

The 2013 action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto V was created by Rockstar North and released by Rockstar Games. After Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008, this is the seventh major installment in the Grand Theft Auto series and the fifteenth overall. The single-player narrative centers on three protagonists—retired bank robber Michael De Santa (Ned Luke), street gangster Franklin Clinton (Shawn Fonteno), and drug dealer and gunrunner Trevor Philips (Steven Ogg)—and their attempts to carry out heists while under pressure from strong criminals and a corrupt government agency. The story takes place in the fictional state of San Andreas, which is based on Southern California. The open-world countryside and Los Santos, a fictitious city modeled like Los Angeles, in San Andreas are freely explored by players. You can choose to explore the game world in first or third person, both on foot and in a car. In single-player mode, players take control of the protagonists and alternate between them both within and outside of missions. The robbery sequences serve as the focal point of the narrative, and many of the missions include shooting and driving action. The severity with which law enforcement responds to criminal activity among players is regulated via a “wanted” system. In the online multiplayer version of Grand Theft Auto Online, users can participate in several cooperative and competitive game modes with up to 30 other players.

Conclusion

Though all of the games are included to have a series, that is how Rockstar is. This is a reason why you don’t hear much about Rockstar itself because most of the games released by them are a series of a previous game. All though they are known for the famous GTA series, aren’t they? Well anyway, this was the top 5 best Rockstar Game. Next year comes another fabulous game from the GTA series, GTA 6. I can’t wait to try it.
