Introduction
We are still six months away from September, but we already have many leaks and rumours that give us a rough idea of the iPhone 18. It is certain that Apple will do something really different because the anniversary date is approaching. They may try to introduce a new foldable iPhone. There is a lot at stake, mainly because they may introduce the iPhone 18e. The iPhone Air did not perform well in sales, and it could be the same for the 18e. If we look at the design of the last iPhone 17, everyone loves the colours and the design. We are hoping this year’s lineup will surprise us too.
What are the key features of the iPhone 18?
- Main colours: burgundy, purple, and brown.
- Price: No leaks about any increase in price.
- Some features: There are rumours that the Dynamic Island may shrink a bit, the cameras are going to change, and the iPhone is going to have a bigger battery.
- Release date: Because the anniversary is approaching, they may delay the release date or do something unusual.
- Low cost: It is true that the iPhone 18 may use some parts from its older brother, the 17, to keep costs low.
As I said before, we are still far from the release date. The leaks and rumours should not be taken as official news from Apple. There are a lot of leaks on the internet, and more than half of them are not trustworthy.
Design & Display
like always, we are going to see the same models: iPhone 18 / iPhone 18 Pro / iPhone 18 Pro Max. There is a possibility that Apple may introduce the iPhone 18e, which could take the place of the Plus models like the 14 Plus. It is true that there is nothing confirmed about the 18e. It would not make sense for Apple to release the 17e together with the 18 models. The theory is that the 17e could be related to the 18 lineup, and there is a good chance Apple will introduce a new foldable iPhone.
The back design that was newly released for the iPhone 17 is expected to stay for a long time. The screen sizes should be the same as before: 6.3 and 6.9 inches.
The back design and display size should remain the same. There are rumours that the Pro models are getting a “subtle transparent finish” on the back glass panel. There is also a possibility that the iPhone 18 Pro will have a more unified design, and leaks suggest it could have a heavier and thicker build. The colours might include coffee, purple, and burgundy.
Performance & Processor
The iPhone 17 is heavily associated with the A19 and A19 Pro chips. I am sure that Apple will release a new chip called the A20. The A20 processor is expected to be equipped with a new process called “Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module.” This is where Multi-Chip Module and Wafer-Level Packaging (WLP) processes are combined, creating a new process called WMCM (Wafer-Level MCM). This means that before the chip is cut, it already includes the CPU, GPU, RAM, and a neural accelerator in a single piece. The benefit of this is extremely fast and efficient communication between components.
The new iPhone is also expected to be equipped with an advanced next-generation C2 modem chip, which improves wireless connectivity and supports 5G satellite networks. This should help not only with internet connection but also in emergencies and texting. There is also a possibility that the new phone could have 12GB of RAM.
AI Features
I have not heard anything specific about new AI features that the iPhone 18 will have. However, considering the current AI era, the new iPhone will likely include many AI features. Apple has also announced that the AI-powered Siri is going to run with support from Google’s Gemini.
Camera System
The front camera is going to be located in the top-left corner of the screen. Apple is still going to stick with the Dynamic Island, but it may become 35% narrower. There are chances that Apple will add more features to Live Activities or other information displayed on the Dynamic Island.
If they narrow the Dynamic Island, there is a good chance that the cameras could become smaller. Many rumours suggest that the Face ID sensor is going to be placed behind the display. The display area in front of the sensor will have fewer elements and translucent wiring, allowing the sensor to see through the display without any problems. Soon, we may see cameras placed behind the display. Yes, this could impact image quality, but it seems like Apple is trying to find a way to maintain image quality.
There are rumours that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is going to get a variable aperture in the camera. This would help control depth of field and image brightness. We see this type of equipment in DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The rumours also say that the new iPhone may have a faster aperture, allowing more light to hit the sensor for better low-light photography. The new iPhone may also be able to take 24-megapixel selfies with the front-facing camera.
Battery & Charging
We expect that Apple may start using new silicon-carbon battery technology. It is possible that we will see a battery capacity exceeding 5,000 mAh. We should not forget that models with eSIM may have slightly more mAh capacity than those with a physical SIM.

It is possible that there may be new models like the iPhone 18e and the iPhone 18 Foldable. We did not see the iPhone 17 Plus, so there is a chance it may not return for the 18 lineup.
Price & Release Date
For years, Apple has followed a strict schedule. Every September, Apple releases a new iPhone. Maybe they will do something different this time. They might release all the iPhone 18 models first, then later release the foldable and the 18e. Or they could release the 18e and foldable first, then launch the main iPhone 18 models during the anniversary event. However, it is unlikely that they will release all of them at the same time, as that could hurt sales. There is no confirmed date or price for any iPhone yet.
Final Verdict
Samsung and Apple are trying not to increase the cost of their new phones. This is going to create strong competition because we will see how much they can improve their features and design without increasing the price.
