Most of the time, before Apple releases anything, the world already knows about it beforehand. However, this time, Apple surprised everyone by launching its new AirPods Max 2, which no one was expecting. The first version of AirPods Max was launched in 2020 and received a minor upgrade in 2024. The main thing that was added was USB-C audio, which supports 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio with “ultra-low latency.” From 2020 to 2026, there was no major update, which shows that Apple does not regularly upgrade their AirPods Max. It is impressive that the price tag remains the same as the older generation, but it is still expensive compared to AirPods and AirPods Pro. The new AirPods Max 2 come with the H2 chip, which allows features like Live Translation and Adaptive Audio, along with more features that were available on the older generation.
Design & Build Quality
Apple has introduced the AirPods Max in five colours: Blue, Orange, Purple, Midnight, and Starlight. Apple also offers ear cushions for $69 per pair to mix and match colors. Apple did not change the design; it still feels the same.
Sound Quality

Additionally, the new generation of AirPods Max is equipped with technology that detects and counters external sound.
The AirPods Max microphones can also analyze the outside environment to better tune the audio being played.
Transparency Mode
Using Noise Cancellation at home or in a library is fine, but it can become dangerous when used outside, where listening for traffic and unexpected sounds is important. Transparency Mode makes sounds more natural, including your own voice and others. If you want Noise Cancellation while staying aware of your surroundings, Adaptive Audio helps by automatically switching between Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode based on the situation.
Conversation Awareness
The new AirPods Max come with Conversation Awareness. It activates when you start talking. It lowers the volume of the media and amplifies the voice of the person you are speaking with. Once you finish, the volume returns to normal.
Personalized Volume
The AirPods learn your volume preferences across different environments. So, each time you go outside, you don’t have to adjust anything—it changes automatically.
Loud Sound Reduction
Based on the environment, sudden loud noises are reduced to protect hearing health, such as sounds from lawn mowers, construction equipment, or garage tools.
Adaptive EQ
Adaptive EQ is an automatic sound tuning system based on how the headphones fit on your head. It adjusts bass, mids, and clarity accordingly.
Voice Isolation
AirPods Max 2 also come with Voice Isolation. This isolates your voice from surrounding noise, making your voice clearer during calls and improving vocal quality.
Live Translation
This feature allows you to listen to someone speaking a different language and get real-time translation in your language. This feature is only available for users with Apple Intelligence.
Siri
Siri has improved. Now there is no need to say “Hey Siri.” Users can just say “Siri” while listening to music, like “Siri, make a call” or “Siri, change the music.” There is no need to say “Hey” anymore.
Smart Features
The AirPods Max 2 are equipped with optical sensors that detect whether they are on your head or not, allowing them to pause or enter low power mode automatically.
Battery Life & Charging
The battery on the AirPods Max can last up to 20 hours of listening with Noise Cancellation at 50% volume. They can be charged through USB-C. A 5-minute charge gives about 1.5 hours of listening time, and a full charge takes around 2 hours.
One strange thing is that the AirPods Max do not have a power button. They rely on different power modes. If you place them on a table without the Smart Case, after 5 minutes they enter Low Power Mode, and after 72 hours they enter Ultra Low Power Mode. With the Smart Case, they immediately enter Low Power Mode and go into Ultra Low Power Mode after 18 hours.
The difference between Low Power Mode and Ultra Low Power Mode is that Low Power Mode reduces battery usage while keeping Bluetooth and Find My active, whereas Ultra Low Power Mode maximizes battery saving and turns off Bluetooth and Find My.
Connectivity & Compatibility
Apple has integrated Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring very low audio latency. Pairing is fast and easy—just one tap to connect. Switching between Apple devices like iPhone and MacBook is also seamless, as long as they are connected to the same Apple ID.
Price & Availability
The price remains the same at $549, although lower prices may be available through third-party apps like Amazon. The AirPods Max 2 were launched for preorder on March 25, but there is no confirmed date for public availability yet.
